The ACTR Student Summer Internship

ACTR is happy to announce a new opportunity for college students who  seek to sharpen their professional and administrative skills at our annual summer internship program.  Although this is an unpaid internship, we strongly encourage future applicants to seek out financial support from their respective colleges or external sources (see a list of potential funding opportunities on the right).


Term: June -- August
Length: between 4 weeks and 12 weeks

Hours: flexible, upon the agreement

For external internship funding: 8 weeks and 240 hours - 30 hrs/week for 8 weeks

or 20 hours a week for 12 weeks

The 2025 Summer ACTR intern will support the ACTR Board of Directors in working directly with the ACTR Advocacy Subcommittee to brainstorm, create, design, update, and advertise the promotional materials and short videos to advocate for studying Russian in the contemporary world. The intern will also manage the ACTR website pages and social media accounts to promote these materials. The intern will present the finished projects at the ACTR Board meeting in September 2025.

Key Responsibilities of the Student Internship for Advocacy Subcommittee for Summer 2025

  • Work closely with the Advocacy Subcommittee to understand the existing initiatives and work-in-progress.
  • Provide the content to and coordinate with the webmaster for posting it on social media and the website.
  • Together with the Advocacy Subcommittee, brainstorm to identify best Advocacy strategies and practices, appealing to the current generation of students and administrators.
  • Create promotional Advocacy and promotional fliers to advertise benefits of studying Russian and ACTR events, collecting the required information and using Canva.
  • Provide the webmaster with the promotional materials to be posted on social media.
  • Using Camtasia, create and edit short promotional videos based on the video interviews conducted in 2024.
  • Present each draft video to the Advocacy committee to receive feedback before completing the final video.
  • Place the short videos on the ACTR YouTube, website, and other social media platforms. Create promotional materials to advertise the videos.
  • Provide weekly progress report statements and submit the hours to the committee chair and to the ACTR President.
  • Present the finished projects to the ACTR Board during the September Board meeting.

The Selection Process

The solicitation of application: January 15-March 1

Application submission deadline (a resume and an application form): March 1

Review of application and notification of the first pool of candidates: by March 15

Finalist interviews: March 17-21

Notification of the finalist(s): by March 24

Meet the 2024 Summer Intern

Katrina Brazhnikov is an undergraduate Russian Flagship student at Bryn Mawr College double-majoring in Russian Area Studies and French and Francophone Studies and minoring in International Studies. During her internship, Katrina not only worked closely with the Advocacy Team, but also completed tasks involving ACTR website and Youtube channel upkeep, ACTR webpage creation, as well as DEIAB materials and other organization-related data collection. In collaboration with the Advocacy Team, Katrina was responsible for the creation of promotional flyers, as well as promotional videos consisting of interviews with various professionals regarding their Russian education and career tracks. Overall, she gained research and digital skills and expanded her professional network within Russian-related fields.
