The Backwards Flip: Designing Russian Courses for Advanced Proficiency
Led by Thomas Garza (The University of Texas at Austin)

Bringing learners of Russian to Advanced levels of functional proficiency — especially in the narrow context of a university course or high school curriculum — requires instructors to design curricula that take maximum advantage of the limited hours of classroom instruction to develop communicative skills through interaction. This webinar will demonstrate that by beginning with the desired outcomes for a class, the instructor can design a curriculum that moves the learner toward these goals. Such curricula can then be executed in a flipped environment that maximizes meaning interaction in class. The result is a course that is more satisfying for both learners and teachers, without sacrificing content or performance outcomes.
