The ACTR Professional Development Committee is thrilled to welcome you to the first event of the fall series – a hands-on pronunciation workshop led by Kimberly DiMattia (Independent Scholar) and Kathleen Manukyan (University of Pittsburgh).

Whether you are a native speaker or a second language learner, teaching pronunciation can be challenging. In this workshop you’ll learn specific strategies that both native and non-native teachers can use in their fall courses – including explicit instruction in the Russian default mouth position (артикуляционный уклад), strategies for isolating key sound features and linking them to listening skills, techniques for fostering learner agency, and ways to use curiosity, play, and song to help students master new sounds.  Participants will also have the chance to share questions and challenges for the group to troubleshoot together.
